Nesting Overload
Right before I became pregnant with Mr. Fluffy I had this grand ol idea of making stuff. I felt the need to find a way to make our laundry detergent, to use more natural cleaners or a way to use no cleaners at all with the help of microfiber cloths. My nesting must have taken a big and different turn. I have always been a natural nester and then my pregnancies intensified this. Now my nesting is overflowing.
I have found a recipe for laundry detergent and with the same ingredients and amount of those ingredients I have made a powdered form and a whipped form of detergent. I have to say that if you have many distractions such as perfectly timed neighbors and kids that need your attention the moment you try and do something that needs your focus you should stick with the powdered version. If you are lucky enough to devote your full attention to the melting, boiling and blending of a detergent than the whipped could be good for you.
I find my powdered recipe over at One Good Thing by Jillee, and this time around I will be preping a year's worth at one fabulous time.
The whipped detergent I found over here at Budget 101. I liked this version but the time it took to make plus my distractions lost me half of my batch because it boiled over. That was one fun soapy mess to clean up.
I have made my own dishwasher detergent and though it was affordable to make and used a few of the same ingredients as the laundry detergent, yay for saving money there, I got tired of having to chip it out of the container. This thing becomes one large clump. I did find that the recipe that uses Kool Aid (A Blossoming Life) wasn't as hard as the batch that used lemishine (PinTriedIt). So I am sticking with store brands here.
A few years back, when I was running a small child care in my home I would nearly stock up on disinfectant spray. There are a few things that is certain about kids and one of them is that they like to share germs. In fact they may be the #1 champions of germ sharing. So I would spray everything at nap time and when they would leave, becoming almost obsessive when I noticed that one of the kids had a runny nose or was sneezing or coughing more than usual. That darn spray would send me into coughing fits and one can only hold their breath so long. This sent me on the search to make something more natural and less irritating to kill those germies. I found a recipe that excited me over at Care2. With a little more research I found different essential oil combinations that not only helped my home stay clean and healthy it also served as an air freshener and as 'Monster Spray' in the kids' room as part of our bed time ritual.
Soon after all this started I have this itch to grow food, raise egg laying chickens, make food mixes, coffee creamer and play dough and I hear alot about castile soap so I need to find a recipe to make something with this for that and that for this and then my brain starts spinning. But I am happy. If it keeps my home clean, my family healthier and could save a bit of $$$ at the same time I am jumping into that pool!!! Hello Pinterest I am coming for you to search for my next diy/homemade ideas to add to my already full box of ideas.
Thanks nesting for giving me even more to do and more motivation to do it.
