Night Time Count Down

"two minutes" she says as I lean in closer for a kiss, she refuses to give in to the night. She is obviously exhausted, but it seems no matter what I do or what I say she has a fight to give and she has been giving it since the beginning of her time.

I rock her, I cuddle her, I rub her and shhhh. Her eyes get heavy and she lets them drop. I wait till all is quiet. Slowly I rise from the chair and glide to her room, down she goes to her crib. As I quietly close her door there it is, her, crying "two minutes."

I have to walk away, she needs to do it herself. It is so hard to hear her cry for me and beg and then a relief. There is finally silence.
